McShannon’s Chance
Mystic Moon Press
Jennie Marsland

Whatever Trey McShannon expected based on the letters from his mail order bride, it wasn’t the lovely, cultured woman who stepped off the stage from Denver.

Beth Underhill had hoped her answering the ad for a wife might be the first step in independence from the stifling atmosphere of her former life. But it doesn’t take long for her to learn that her new husband might have other ideas.

It takes a lot of work for them to come to an understanding about their roles in each others lives. Though love is growing slowly between them, when Beth’s artistic talent provides her an opportunity to assert herself in the world, their fledgling love is tested. And when new enemies threaten, both will understand just what they have to lose.

Author Marsland has written a slice of life story set in the Old West, a time for new beginnings and pursuing dreams. The story provides appealing characters and a strong sense of community even if the plot meanders a bit.
